Future Changes in Eddy Kinetic Energy in the California Current System From Dynamically Downscaled Climate Projections
نویسندگان
چکیده
Eddies in the California Current System (CCS) are generated via baroclinic instabilities of upwelling jet and contribute to mesoscale variability. However, climate-induced changes activity CCS remain poorly explored. We present future eddy kinetic energy (EKE) from an ensemble three high-resolution downscaled ocean projections covering 1980–2100. EKE is projected increase throughout toward end century (2071–2100) compared a 1980–2010 reference period. Using measures upper stratification, we find increasing trend highly correlated with more stratified ocean. These findings support previous studies suggesting that modulated mainly by instabilities, rather than wind components, which did not show systematic change across projections. Enhanced could lead distribution aggregation biogenic material, having important implications for CCS.

15 صفحه اولUncertainty in projections of streamflow changes due to climate change in California
[1] Understanding the uncertainty in the projected impacts of climate change on hydrology will help decision-makers interpret the confidence in different projected future hydrologic impacts. We focus on California, which is vulnerable to hydrologic impacts of climate change. We statistically bias correct and downscale temperature and precipitation projections from 10 GCMs participating in the C...

The California Current System is an eastern boundary upwelling system (EBUS) with high biological production along the coast. Oligotrophic offshore waters create cross-shore gradients of biological and physical properties, which are affected by intense mesoscale eddy activity. The influence of eddies on ecosystem dynamics in EBUS is still in debate. To elucidate the mechanisms that influence th...
متن کاملProjected changes of temperature and precipitation in Texas from downscaled global climate models
Climate change projections, in particular precipitation and temperature under different IPCC future emissions scenarios in Texas, were based on statistically downscaled multi-model ensembles. A comparison of downscaled model results with observations and reanalysis data for the present-day climate shows that all models simulate monthly variations in surface air temperature well (correlation coe...
